My son trained at Goombas for a quick minute. It didn’t take long to realize Joe Skubis the owner, was of little character so my son and another fighter decided to train with a more seasoned coach. When Skubis found out he was livid, calling my sons new coach complaining that my son was his fighter. As if he had ownership of my son’s career. Nevertheless, my son returned to Goombas to speak to Joe face to face as well as to work out for the day. Kill two birds with one stone so to speak. Mind you, my son was a paid member of the gym yet when he arrived yet Joe refused to let him work out as punishment for his decision. Ranting that my son could no longer come to his gym.

My son requested his membership fee back and Skubis agreed to cut him a check for half the fee as time had went by. My son agreed to the agreed upon reduced amount. Skubis cut my son a check for 22.00 dollars and my son wished him well and left. Low and behold, that coward cancelled the 22.00 dollar refund check he agreed to pay my son.

Since it was my account my son deposited it in, I called him to see if there was some sort of mistake. And with the attitude of a wee man, he said he spoke to his attorney and accountant who advised him to cancel the check. According to him he had not one, but two meetings seeking advice regarding, get ready everyone…A 22 DOLLAR CHECK.

I thought it was important to let anyone looking to do business with this clown, read the BS he pulled on a teenager just looking to train. Joe Skubis is a thief and a liar. As a parent, think twice about leaving your kids with this guy. He has no honor and just speaking with him over the phone raised a flag with me as a parent. If my kids were little I would never leave them alone with him. No way.

Final thoughts, any fighters looking to advance or begin a career in boxing should look else ware. This guy is not the real deal. Don’t be fooled by the gym, any fool can buy equipment and open a store. He did.
